The Animal Resource Center strongly supports dog licensing as a vital tool for responsible pet ownership and community safety. Licensing not only helps reunite lost pets with their families quickly but also funds essential animal welfare services, including sheltering, adoption programs, and public education.
By ensuring your dog is licensed, you contribute to a safer, healthier community for pets and people alike. Join us in promoting responsible pet ownership by ensuring your dog is licensed every year.

Dog license requirements:

Ohio law requires all dogs over the age of three months to be licensed; tags must be displayed on a dog’s collar at all times.

Tags are required to be purchased immediately upon acquiring a new dog. After thirty (30) days, a penalty applies. Providing false information when obtaining a dog license (falsely claiming an animal is altered or providing an incorrect acquisition date to avoid a penalty) is a criminal offense. The Animal Resource Center actively prosecutes offenders.

Benefits of licensing & microchips:

A Montgomery County license can be traced 24 hours a day, 365 a year through the Montgomery County Auditor.

Licensed dogs are eligible for the Vacation Registration Program.

The Animal Resource Center urges owners to microchip their pets as a reliable and effective way to reunite them with their families should they become lost. Microchipping is proven to increase the chances of a safe return home and helps reduce the number of lost animals entering shelters.
Microchips are a safe and permanent secondary form of identification that cannot be lost or removed.

Kennel licensing:

A Kennel License can be obtained for $100 from the County Building at 451 W. Third St. Kennel Licenses are not available from any other dog license-selling locations. Those who purchase a Kennel License must also purchase a Vendor’s License for the intent to sell breeding stock.
