Every year, thousands of pets end up in shelters with no identification and no way to quickly reunite them with their families. A collar and tag can help, but tags can fall off, collars can break and accidents happen. That’s where microchips come in.
This May, in celebration of Chip Your Pet Month, the Animal Resource Center is offering pet microchips for just $10 throughout the month of May 2026.
What Is a Microchip?
A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that’s implanted just under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. The process is quick, safe and similar to a routine vaccination.
Each microchip contains a unique identification number that can be scanned by shelters, veterinarians and even police sometimes. That number is linked to your contact information through a registration database.
Unlike collars or tags, a microchip is permanent and cannot accidentally be lost or removed.
Why Should My Pet Be Microchipped?
Microchips dramatically increase the chances of a lost pet making it back home.
Even indoor pets can slip outside unexpectedly during storms, fireworks, moves or everyday accidents. If your pet is found without a collar or license tag, a microchip may be the only way to connect them back to you.
Microchips help:
- Reunite lost pets with their families
- Provide permanent identification
- Offer peace of mind in emergencies
- Reduce the amount of time pets spend in shelters
One of the most important parts of microchipping is making sure the registration information connected to the chip is accurate and up to date. At the Animal Resource Center, staff assist with registration during the appointment so pets leave with fully activated microchips and owners leave with one less thing to worry about.

A Small Chip Can Make a Big Difference
A microchip takes only moments to place, but it can make a lifetime of difference if your pet ever goes missing.
Collars and tags are important, but they are not foolproof. A microchip provides an extra layer of protection and helps ensure that if the unexpected happens, your pet has the best possible chance of finding their way back home.
Protect your pet. Protect your peace of mind. Chip your pet this May at the Animal Resource Center.
